Rodent food department – Visually appealing bright colors, happy rodents and rabbits on the packaging, you would like to take a bite of this colorful variety yourself. And that’s exactly what the colors and packaging should do for us. I would like to make it clear at this point that this text is not intended to be an attack on a specific brand or product. Every customer is free to decide whether or not to deal with the composition.
But for years I thought I was doing something good for my rabbits and rodents by bringing this colorful variety of treats home. As a trained cook, at some point I looked into the leaflet a little more intensively - and there was more to read than I would have liked.
The contents (quantity) reads as follows: The products listed first contain the most in terms of weight. The last listed ones are contained in small quantities. Healthy ingredients are deliberately highlighted with percentages to draw attention to them (but this can be seen as a homeopathic dose for the entire amount if you calculate it).
But what really frightened me were the so-called “by-products”, which is a single word used to describe waste products, which suggests that it is a product that cannot be used in processing in the food industry. However, it means nothing other than, for example, pomace (these are squeezed carrots, grapes, apples, etc. from the juice industry or fruit and vegetable peels, preparation waste, etc.).
To enhance these by-products, sugar, milk, dairy products, glucose, honey, oils, fats and molasses and even egg products are added. All of this, apart from dyes, preservatives, artificially added probiotics and vitamins, should suggest to us as pet owners that we are doing something good for our pet. At that moment it was clear to me that my dear long-eared dogs would only receive home-made products. Then I was struck by the idea of baking for other grain providers too.
This is my list of ingredients:
Ripened by the sun, washed and processed by hand, dried by the wind and gently baked like in grandmother's time. This is my promise to my products, 100% natural, fresh ingredients of the highest quality, whenever possible from Switzerland!
The purchased ingredients such as buckwheat, oat flakes, nuts etc. are often organic products (organic is only advertised if it is a registered label) and many raw materials come from Switzerland.
We get vegetables and fruits from regional farmers in the Emmental region and the surrounding area. Rare vegetables are grown by hand on 3 acres of farmland. Many of the wild herbs and leaves used are collected from remote Emmental meadows (promoted with *Switzerland). More about this in “About us” – “Manufacture and production”.
The binding agent is a herbal plant derived from butterflies, making it gluten-free, vegan and compatible with all rodent-like furry friends.

The postage is based on weight and size, which is between €10 and €18 and goes up to a maximum of 2,5 kg.
